Luke’s Gospel has the story of two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus. Unsettled, uncertain and needing direction after the death of Jesus they are approached by a stranger. Walking beside them, the stranger, who they do not initially recognise, engages them in conversation where on the journey their minds are opened to the meaningof scripture and a sense of mission and purpose is clarified for them.

The disciples later come to recognise the stranger as Jesus at the moment he breaks bread with them at a meal, and they experience their ‘hearts burning within them.’ Here we see Jesus as the educator of educators, inspiring our journey and work as we walk beside our students and each other seeking meaning and purpose.

This Catholic Education Northern Territory (CENT) Towards 2029 Strategic Directions document states and shares how we seek to walk the road together. Four system priorities are identified and described to shape and drive CENT’s work. For each priority it makes clear what we will do and what we believe improvement will look like.

The plan is the product of listening, collegiality and reflection. Inspired by our vision, mission, and values, it is unequivocal in its aspiration to elevate learning, formation, and achievement of young people so they find their ‘hearts burning within them.’

It is our prayer that this document provides guidance and inspiration for our rich tapestry of schools and educators in the Diocese of Darwin as we walk together on the road to growth. We take great pleasure in endorsing and presenting Towards 2029.
