Outstanding - School of the future opens in Zuccoli

Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AM Administrator for the Northern Territory and Selena Uibo NT Minister for Education with students: Mia Dickens, Jazz Smith, Flynn Davis, Drincy Bregente, Demi Opitz having fun at the opening and blessing of the new Mother Teresa Catholic Primary school in Zuccoli.

The Northern Territory’s newest school is a bright star lighting the way forward for the future of education in Australia.

Bishop Eugene Hurley blessed the school, honouring the work of Mother Teresa and the sisters of the Missionaries of Charity in Australia. The NT Education Minister Selena Uibo and Jo Martorella, Foundation Principal, declared the school open.

All sides of Northern Territory politics were represented at the opening: Her honour, The Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AM, administrator of the Northern Territory, and Mrs Lia Finocchiaro, local member for Spillett and Deputy Opposition leader.

Selena Uibo, Education minister said, “Mother Teresa Catholic Primary is more than just another school….it is state of the art” Selena complimented the design team, headed by Gary Pollock, Infrastructure manager for Catholic Education, who spent months travelling to schools, researching and in discussions with stakeholders, architects and the NT Government.

Built by Halikos Constructions on time and on budget the school stands out from the moment you arrive. The striking design with huge undercover areas give a sense of space and freedom to students. Creative climbing parks both educate as well as expel the boundless energy of the young students. Innovation with acoustics and built-in soundfield systems ensures learning spaces are quiet. Huge 68sq/m classrooms that can be transformed in minutes into smaller learning cubes. Technology abounds from all the built in interactive screens to the focus on iLearning.

Greg O’Mullane director of Catholic Educaiton complemented the team of architects, Dave Bennett Designs, Rossi Architects and Walter Brooks Architects. “They listened and delivered”. Attention to detail, use of materials, innovative recycling, LED lighting throughout and solar power all combine to make this school the best in the Northern Territory.
