Santa Teresa's Budding Authors

Year 6 students from remote Ltyentye Apurte Catholic School and their teachers, Annie and Julia Fuller, became published authors. About 70 family, friends and guests joined the students at the special celebration, which was held at the Alice Springs Public Library.

"Apmere Atyenhe Ltyentye Apurte" (My Home Santa Teresa) is a collection of writing and art pieces by the Year 6 students that celebrates all they love about their family, their friends and their community. Their words and illustrations remind us of the joy to be found in the simple things of life – gratitude for heroes, places that are special and some of life’s happiest moments.

"Apmere Atyenhe Ltyentye Apurte" was created during workshops with Dr Anita Heiss (Wiradjuri author) and Leecee Carmichael (Quandamooka artist) in a process that began in April. The book is part of Gilimbaa’s Connecting Waves project created in partnership with the University of Canberra’s Collaborative Indigenous Research Initiative.
